The Government Conference Centre (GCC) was formerly Ottawa's central train station. The GCC’s Main Entrance Block houses 4 floors of office space and a dedicated penthouse that holds mechanical equipment and a diesel generator (used for emergency power). The General Waiting Room and Ticketing Block hold large committee rooms that have their proper air handler units controlling its air quality. The Concourse houses the large senate chamber, the South Addition offers even more office space and a new addition where its basement space is used for snow melting equipment.

GCC has 8 air handling units in total, which also includes multiple fan coil units that help cool various rooms such as telecom and electrical rooms. The entire building houses 126 VAV’s that provide heating and cooling to all office spaces and a snowmelt system to heat up 3 specific zones, which are also the three main entrances to the building. Highly secured building, with emergency buttons to initiate a specific sequence, when triggered.

One of the main challenges encountered at the GCC is that it is a Heritage building and as such, many aspects of the building had to be kept intact. We were able to come up with innovative solutions to package equipment.
